The NBA Finals are fast approaching. It's a perfect opportunity to talk about this year's NBA basketball game of 2K. Coincidentally, a new leak may have leaked some NBA stars who will grace this year's various covers for NBA 2K22.

A Twitter account called 2KIntel shared what appears to be an image of a promotional flyer for NBA 2K22, likely from a retailer like GameStop. The message includes the NBA 2K22 logo, the September 10 release date, and some product information. Most importantly, half of the post features artwork featuring three different NBA players, all of whom most basketball fans would call great players.

The first player to appear was the legendary Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who wore the Los Angeles Lakers jersey and wore goggles that he wore because of his repeated eye scratches. The second is Dirk Nowitzki, who recently retired in 2019 after spending his entire NBA career with the Dallas Mavericks. Another NBA player, and the most controversial addition, is Kevin Durant. Durant currently plays for the Brooklyn Nets, although he has won championship rings with the Golden State Warriors.

While the leaked image is likely for the cover of the NBA 2K22, you haven't confirmed what the cover will be yet. This is because 2K typically releases multiple versions of NBA games, each with different levels of additional digital content. They also sometimes do unique brands. For example, NBA 2K21 featured Mamba Forever editions celebrating the life of Kobe Bryan, as well as standard editions featuring Damian Lillard and Zion Williamson. There will likely be a similar special featuring these three former and current NBA 2K22 stars.

What that could mean is that NBA 2K22's Standard Edition cover stars have not been revealed. Kevin Durant could initially be the cover star of the Standard Edition, but that's not certain. Those hoping for a new NBA superstar this year since Durant debuted in NBA 2K15 are still hopeful.

The covers of NBA 2K21 were officially unveiled in early July last year. If 2K plans to unveil a game this year, an announcement could be made in a few days. We expect to hear more about NBA 2K22 later this week.
