NBA 2K22 is still months away, but it can’t stop the anticipation of the game returning to PS5. Last year, we saw NBA 2K21 breaking the barrier to the next gen franchise game, and here’s all we know so far about how NBA 2K22 could do it on PS5.

We don’t have an official announcement yet about the unveiling of NBA 2K22, but we can look back on the past year to see when someone could arrive. NBA 2K21 featuring Alpha PS5 material was released on June 11, 2020, and appears to be a similar day this year to the original announcement and possible NBA 2K22 unveiling. It should set the timing for E3 2021, and we’ll probably start learning more about NBA 2K22 on PS5.

Release date on PS5

PS5 does not yet have an official NBA 2K22 release date, but last year we have seen a significant delay in the next gen of releases compared to the normal NBA 2K21 release date. It is unlikely to happen this year, as the entire next gen development cycle should allow simultaneous release on all platforms, including the PS5. Based on previous years, the most likely release date for NBA 2K22 is September 3, 2021 or September 10, 2021.

While the PS5 brings a new gen of gaming and graphics, it also brings with it a higher price tag, which is true for the NBA 2K22. The NBA 2K21 was part of setting the benchmark for major sports games at $ 59.99 for the current gen, but it jumped to $ 69.99 for the next gen. Unfortunately, this is likely to continue with NBA 2K22 pricing, and fans can expect to pay more if they want the game to be luxurious or special.

NBA 2K22 Pre-Order

NBA 2K22 isn’t pre-orderable yet, and it’s probably at least a few months before the change. Pre-orders for NBA 2K21 only began to be released on July 2 after the game’s sporting event was unveiled. With a possible initial announcement on E3 and later that month, we can probably expect NBA 2K22 to be pre-orderable in early July.

Next gen game modes

While the price of the PS5’s NBA 2K22 is higher, one of the benefits of the next gen is the exclusive next-gen gaming modes. The CEO among them is The City, which debuted last year and has been called one of the best single player modes in the sport today.
